Lagonda’s dramatic victory at Le Mans in 1935, under WO Bentley’s energetic leadership, inspired the LG45 model, closely based on the Le Mans Team cars, and introduced the following year.
Shortly before its 1935 Le Mans win, Lagonda had gone into liquidation and passed to new owners. In September 1935 they were able to announce the LG45. A new model, building upon the successful Le Mans win, the old M45 and M45R models and the new owners’ enthusiasm, it was a much more sober vehicle offered in saloon, tourer and drophead coupé variants. Deliveries commenced in the spring of 1936.
Lagonda’s new owners were keen to build on the racing successes and commissioned Fox & Nicholl to produce cars for the ’36 Le Mans.
Two four-seaters were built on the new LG45 10ft 9in chassis. Additionally a couple of two-seater cars were built. All four cars raced during 1936 but Le Mans was cancelled due to industrial action, the only occasion the race has not run in peacetime.
The new Lagonda management was understandably disappointed and both four-seater cars were broken up in late 1936, leaving the two two-seaters to continue to the present day representing this great era of Lagonda racing history.
Endowed with such an impeccable pedigree, the 4.5-Litre Lagonda quickly established itself as a favorite among the wealthy sporting motorists of its day. A mere 278 LG45s were produced between 1936 and 1937 and the model remains a much sought-after classic.

One of only 278 LG45s produced during 1936 and 1937, and after more then 80 years, the model remains a much sought after classic car.
The Lagonda was found as a wreck and at the time the founders decided to make the body more sportive. The car was fully restored and rebuilt by John Walker in 1996.
The restoration included the installation of a correct type replacement engine and a new body in the Le Mans style specification as for the 1935 team cars.
The car is impressively complete with a nice history file which shows that the former owner bought the car in 2013 from LMB Racing in Belgium.
Since 2015 an amount of € 40.000,- has been spend on the car.
All invoices including an invoice for an engine rebuilt are with the car.
The engine has been rebuilt in 2015 and during the restoration a modern clutch conversion is installed to make the car even more easily handling.
The body of the Lagonda is impressively nice. The shape is wonderful even as the condition. The paint is very nice shiny and is in a condition as if the car was finished from restoration recently.
The chrome parts including the massive grille are in an as new condition as well.
The red / body colored wheels fit the car very nicely and are fitted with recent tires.
The interior is in a beautiful condition. The leather which is used is the typical English smooth leather.
No damages can be found in the interior.
The carpets are all in a nice order as well.
This Lagonda remains a much sought after classic car and a true connoisseurs pre-war dream. The Lagonda is fast, comfortable and straightforward to drive making it ultimately a very rewarding experience
