Introduced at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show, The Tipo 117 Bora was Maserati’s first and only mid-engine V8 supercar, following the trend set by the Lamborghini Miura in 1966.

The Maserati Bora owes its stunning good looks to the Italdesign studio, with the main contributor being Giorgetto Giugiaro himself. 

The legendary Italian is considered to be the most influential car designer of the 20th century. 

We can thank him for styling some of the most iconic cars ever made, such as the Ferrari 250 GTO, De Tomaso Mangusta, Lancia Delta, DeLorean DMC 12, and others. The car stood at just 1,138 mm (44.8 inches) and had a drag coefficient of just 0.30 Cd.

Drivewise the Maserati Bora was an absolute amazing car at the time in comparison to it’s competitors. 

The Maserati was available in 4.7 litre and 4.9 litre configuration and both engines were connected to a 5 speed ZF gearbox. 

During the car’s 7 year production run, 564 Boras were built, of which 275 were 4.9 liter cars such as this example.



According to Maserati “Certificat0 di Origine”, this Bora 4.9 was completed in Maserati’s Modena workshop in September 1973.

Finished in the same combination of Blue Ischia paint over Senape (Beige) leather interior as it bares today.

The Maserati went by boat via the port of Modena towards the United States. The Maserati was first registered at the 1st. Of July 1974. 

Copies of the original build sheets and factory records are on file.

It was an original US market car and has been thoroughly enjoyed and maintained throughout its history.

In 2017 the Maserati came back to Europe via Italy and in August 2019 the former Dutch owner bought the car.

After his purchase the Maserati went straight to Italian car specialist Strada e Corsa for a full service. Invoices show a variety of work which has been done on the car.

Due to an upgrade of the collection of the former owner, the Maserati came in our hands.



What a beautiful appearance. The shape of the Bora is just fabulous. 

When you take a longer look at the car you see a variety of materials which are used on the car which make the car very special.

The exterior condition of the car is very very nice.

The paint is beautiful and has a superb deep shine. Only on the left rear fender one can find a very minor scratch.

The stainless steel roof and window surroundings are beautifully polished and in a great condition. 

The steel roof panel adds such a nice detail to the car’s design. 

All windows and lights are in an excellent condition. The car also sits on nice condition wheels.



The exterior of the Maserati Bora is nice but the interior of the car is as unique and also quite luxurious.

Most mid-engine cars were simply go-fast toys. The Bora is a go-fast toy were most of the interior is covered in high-quality leather. 

This included the seats, doors, and dashboard. 

The Maserati Bora features elegant and refined details rivaling the luxury of some limousines.

The entire interior of this example seems to be fully original and in an absolute fantastic condition. 

The instruments, switches, and controls are all in excellent original condition, as are the carpets and headliner.

The Maserati Bora provide the driver with a special and highly enjoyable driving experience.

The car runs and drives very well. Perhaps the most remarkable thing about the driving experience is how easy to drive the car is compared to other Italian exotics of the period. 

The shifter is extremely precise, with great synchromesh on all gears from cold, and a pleasant, usable character that gives the driver a sense of familiarity and comfort with the car that is missing from many classic cars.

The clutch is progressive and of a manageable weight, and the gearbox is as easy to use and robust feeling as a modern unit. 

The throttle is linear, the engine responsive, acceleration and noises from the engine are both very memorable. 

The interior is comfortable and a big front trunk makes it quite usable.

The overall experience of the interior is wonderfully mellowed and fascinating thanks to the car’s myriad of interesting period details, all of which have been lovingly preserved and thoughtfully maintained. 

This particular car is a superb example, displaying outstanding integrity and very low miles. A very handsome car ready for use. 

The Maserati Bora has recently become recognized by collectors as one of the more desirable performance cars of the period. Embodying all the important characteristics for a highly collectible car.
