Conceived as a comfortable and long-legged Grande Routiérè, rather than an out-and-out sports car like the preceding E-Type, the XJ-S made use of the Jaguar XJ6/XJ12 saloon platform and running gear.
Shorter in the wheelbase than its saloon siblings, the XJ-S debuted as a V12-powered coupé, with six-cylinder and soft-top versions following in the 1980s.
The XJS was powered by the superbly refined and smoothly powerful 60-degree all-alloy V12, with a single overhead camshaft per bank, fuel injection and 285bhp produced from 5.3-litres to provide effortless performance.
ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE
This lovely example was delivered new on the 4th of July 1988 in Paris, France. The XJS was manufactured with Left-Hand Drive specification and the desirable 5.3 V12 engine and automatic transmission.
The odometer shows only 95.200 km.
This fine example has been in the same French ownership for the last 14 years.
The gentlemen, a real car enthusiast always took good care of the car which can easily be shown on the invoices which are coming with the car. No money has been spared on the technique and / or services.
The car looks extremely elegant in this color combination and is a very nice and fresh appearance.
The exterior is of this XJS is impressively nice. The car has a beautiful paint with a nice deep shine. No big signs of use can be found on the car which is unique. Unique because these cars drive so fabulous that they are mostly used often resulting in signs of use and damages.
Many times an XJS can look a bit a tired car but this is an extremely fresh and nice looking XJS
The alloy wheels are in good condition. The aluminium and chrome parts look nice and clean.
The corners of the bumpers are all very nice without any damages (often the case).
The beautiful beige leather interior suits the outside color very well.
As one would expect looking at the exterior condition of the car, the interior condition is also very nice. One could find signs of use but overall the condition is very nice.
The middle part around the gear knob would benefit from a restoration which we can let carry out in Italy.
The combination of the nice leather with the beautiful walnut veneer is beautiful.
CONDITION BOOT/ENGINE BAY
The boot and the engine bay of the XJS are both very nice and fully original. A careful look show again that this is a very nice example of an XJS.
The car drives as it looks. Very very well and correct.
That delicious 5.3-liter V12 provides smooth power and a top speed near 150mph.
We think is a very fine example of this classic and increasingly desirable and collectible Jaguar XJS V12.
Many enthusiasts agree that the XJS gets better with age, confirmed by recent increases in market value. In our opinion, the Jaguar XJS is still underpriced though and we expect values to keep rising as more and more people are getting used to Jaguar’s more modern design philosophy.
