The Austin Healey became one of the best known British classic cars of the 1950s and 1960s following their spectacular success in international rallying and on the race track.
Built for just two years from 1953 to 1955, the first iteration of the Austin Healey, the 100/4 BN1 caused a sensation when it debuted at the 1952 London Motor Show.
Fitted with a large, torquey 2,660cc four-cylinder engine, the light and streamlined Healey 100 was a genuine 100mph-plus car.
With a fold-flat windscreen, minimal creature comforts and plenty of urge, the Austin-Healey was the quintessential British sports car.
The earliest 100/4s are highly regarded by Healey enthusiasts for their purity of line and raw sports car driving experience.
The Austin Healey 100/4 BN1 today represents the holy grail of Austin Healey collecting.
The early cars are eligible to a variety of exclusive events including the Mille Miglia, the Tour Auto, Le Mans Classic to name a few.
It is a real sports car, easy to drive and maintain, with a bewitching sound.
ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust (BMIHT) states that this specific example was completed in October, 1954.
The Healey is finished in an attractive and rare Florida Green over White, and with a lovely Black leather interior and matching painted wired wheels.
Furthermore, the records from British Motor Industry Heritage Trust indicate factory-delivery with laminated windscreen, a heater and wire wheels. All these options are still on the car.
This Austin Healey is one of the earlier examples being a BNI.
The Healey has been most of its life in the United States and came to the Netherlands in 2009.
We have owned this Healey before when we bought the car in 2016 from a Healey specialist.
We sold it quickly to customers/friends from Germany.
A couple who owned a nice collection with beautiful classic cars.
During the ownership between 2016 and 2020 the German owners spend approximately € 16.000,- on the car.
They carried out regular service but they also rebuilt the engine of the Healey.
Invoices of the work done are available.
In 2020 we bought the Healey from this German couple and the car was used for the 2021 Mille Miglia.
Recently the gearbox have been rebuilt on the Austin Healey making the car ready for the new owner.
In the history file there are a number of pictures showing the car competing at the 2021 Mille Miglia.
The body of the Austin Healey is very nice.
The paintwork still looks fresh with a deep shine and the shut lines look factory tight.
The two-tone paintwork looks absolutely stunning and the superb color combination result in many enthusiastic people along the road.
The period correct painted wire wheels as well as the tyres are in excellent condition.
The car comes with full weather equipment, including a tonneau cover and its practical folding roof that is in very good condition as it was renewed when the car was restored.
As you will see from the photographs, the interior of the Healey is in beautiful condition.
The leather seats have no noticeable damage and look beautiful.
The carpets are in excellent condition, complimented by rubber floor mats for added protection.
The all-metal dashboard looks stunning with all its original gauges and clocks clearly visible and working as they should.
The car is currently fitted with a Monit Tripmaster which can be used for rallies. If one wouldn’t appreciated this meter it can be dispatched without leaving any holes.
The boot is in a nice condition as well and under the carpet you will notice in the photographs a clean and tidy fuel tank.
The engine bay is very well cared for and presents very fresh and completely period correct.
The car benefits from slightly larger air filters as well as an electric cooling fan to avoid problems in traffic jams.
Because of the high temperatures in the Mille Miglia we have made a system to keep the bonnet open. This was done to avoid overheating problems but luckily this car drove the Mille Miglia without showing any problems.
The 2.6 litre engine sounds superb and has never ever failed to start during the 2021 Mille Miglia.
Assisted by a cooling fan, the engine does not run hot even on extreme hot summer days or in the 2021 Mille Miglia with 34 Degrees!
The car drives so incredibly well. The running of the engine is great even as the handling.
The transmission and the clutch operate as they should be. Smooth and easy.
The brakes are very effective and have a great response. The steering and suspension are very tight.
Since the Mille Miglia the Healey benefit from a comprehensive service. No big issues were found but this Healey feels the way Donald Healey wanted to produce cars. Easy to handle, fast and responsive!
